Vision Screening in Eastern NC<\/strong><\/h1><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>
\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

In collaboration with <\/span>Prevent Blindness NC<\/a>, we are conducting a vision screening project in Lenoir and Cumberland counties.\u00a0 The goal of the project is to figure out how common vision loss is among working-aged adults (age 40-64) and what factors contribute to vision loss.\u00a0 Participants will have their distance vision tested as well as a quick evaluation of their ability to see letters with different levels of contrast.\u00a0 They will also complete a brief questionnaire about their perceptions of their vision and use of medical resources.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

How Do I Sign Up?

To be eligible, you must be aged 40-64 and live in one of the zip codes below.<\/p>\n

Select a time and date from the calendar on this page to sign up. Once you sign up, we will contact you by phone or email to confirm.<\/p>\n

We will be conducting screenings in each county on a regular basis over the next couple of months.\u00a0 The calendar below shows what dates have already been scheduled.\u00a0 You can just show up to the site on the day of the screening, or you can let is know you are coming by filling out the form below.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

What is vision impairment? <\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t

Vision impairment (VI) is defined as having distance acuity of 20\/40 or worse. For more general information about eye health visit: https:\/\/nc.preventblindness.org<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

What will I do if I agree to participate? <\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t

If you agree to participate you will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire about your vision. Then a study team member will complete a distance vision screening with you using a smartphone application. If your vision is less than 20\/40 we will complete a second screening with a small device that mimics wearing prescription glasses. If you have vision loss that doesn\u2019t improve with this small device, we will offer you an additional service to take images of the back of your eyes. These images can be used to help determine whether you have an eye condition that is causing your vision loss.<\/p>\n

A: Your participation in this study will last 10-15 minutes. If you have vision loss and we offer you additional services that will take an additional 15 minutes.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Will I receive my results? <\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t

Yes, you will receive the results of your distance vision immediately.
